Il Cantiere in Cantina: tradition and innovation take shape

In the heart of the hills of Ozzano Monferrato, Tenuta Genevrina is writing a new chapter in its history. Located at the summit of the Belvento hill, the estate tells an ancient story at first glance: a complex born over a century ago, grown in symbiosis with the land and the passion for viticulture. Today, this heritage meets the future in an ambitious project that combines innovation, sustainability, and the desire to offer a unique experience to those who visit the estate.

A deep transformation project

Tenuta Genevrina spans 9 hectares of vineyards and holds a legacy made of hard work, land, and dedication. The pre-existing cellar, now no longer operational, and the historical structures required a profound renewal. From this comes “Il Cantiere in Cantina” (litterally “The Construction Site in the Cellar”), a transformation project that will unfold between 2021 and 2027, with the aim of creating a place where tradition and innovation will constantly dialogue.

The project is not limited to renovation; it aims to redesign the estate experience. Every space will be designed to welcome visitors, offering moments of discovery and in-depth exploration of the world of wine and the uniqueness of Monferrato. The new structures will be designed to integrate perfectly into the surrounding landscape, maintaining a balance between modernity and respect for the local history.

Sustainable and visionary architecture

After careful reflection, the design choice has been oriented towards a model that not only preserves the identity of the territory, but enhances it through sustainable solutions.

  • Underground cellar: most of the new structure will be underground, ensuring energy efficiency, thermal stability, and minimal visual impact on the landscape.
  • Eco-sustainable materials: the recovery of materials from demolitions will reduce waste and give new life to the historic structures.
  • Energy self-sufficiency: the use of photovoltaic panels and renewable energy plants will ensure a low environmental impact approach.
  • Recycling wastewater and rainwater: responsible management of water resources for the irrigation of gardens and green areas.
  • Panoramic areas and green spaces: nature trails and gardens will be created designed for those who want to immerse themselves in nature and enjoy the beauty of the landscape.

A multi-stage project

The development of the Tenuta will follow a precise planning, ensuring the continuity of agricultural and wine activities:

  • 2024-2025: construction of the new barrel cellar and agricultural workshop with photovoltaic roof for maximum energy efficiency.
  • Second phase: construction of the underground wine-making area, which will allow to optimize temperature control and production quality, as well as an event area with spaces dedicated to reception and cultural dissemination on wine.
  • Third phase: creation of the warehouse for bottled wines, offices and a tasting room with shop and panoramic terrace, where visitors can taste the products of the estate immersed in the Monferrato landscape.
  • Final stages: renovation of the residence with six charming rooms and construction of a panoramic swimming pool, creating an exclusive hospitality offer.
  • Training spaces: environments designed for lectures and workshops on viticulture and sustainability will be created for professionals and enthusiasts.

Wood: a symbol of innovation and sustainability

One of the distinguishing features of the project will be the use of wood, chosen for its outstanding properties:

  • Environmental sustainability: renewable and low-emission materials.
  • Energy efficiency: excellent insulating capacity, ideal for thermal comfort and reduced consumption.
  • Aesthetics and well-being: a harmonious link with the surrounding landscape, for an authentic sensory experience.
  • Innovation and durability: the use of CLT (Cross Laminated Timber) for safe and durable structures.
  • Optimized construction time: thanks to prefabrication, construction will be faster and more efficient.

The use of wood is not just a technical choice, but also a symbolic one: a living material that tells the story of a land and grows towards the future, just like Tenuta Genevrina.

A construction site open to the community

What makes this project unique is the desire to make it accessible and shareable. Throughout the transformation phase, “Il Cantiere in Cantina” will be open to visitors, offering the opportunity to closely discover the evolution of the estate and the path that will lead to the creation of a new excellence in Monferrato.

In addition to the guided tours, events, tastings and thematic meetings will be organized to make everyone experience the excitement of the ongoing transformation. There will be in-depth sessions with experts from the sector, who will illustrate the architectural, productive and sustainable choices adopted in the project.

The future of Tenuta Genevrina has already begun: an innovative viticulture project that has its roots in the past, but with its eyes on the horizon. A place where history is renewed, innovation takes shape and the passion for wine is expressed in every detail.
